JACK’S SUPPORTS BO BIKE BAMA AND TORNADO RELIEF
Saturday, April 27, Jack’s will participate in Bo Bikes Bama for the second year in a row by feeding individuals biking the 20 and 60-mile course. The charity ride, created by sports legend Bo Jackson, will raise money for the Governor’s Emergency Relief Fund to help meet unmet needs from the devastating April 27, 2011 tornadoes.
“Last year’s event was truly amazing, and we are humbled to be a part of it again this year,” said Jack’s Marketing Director Pam Measel. “Things are starting to be rebuilt, but there is still a lot of work to do to make sure that people will be safe if this ever happens again. Bo has a mission not only to heal the state, but to protect it. We are honored to be a part of that mission.”
In 2011, Bo started the charity ride with the help of Trek, Nike and Capital Sports & Entertainment to address recovery needs faced by Alabamians. The inaugural event attracted hundreds of cyclists from across the United States and Canada. Over the five-day ride through the tornado-ravaged areas, Bo was joined by celebrities including Lance Armstrong, Scottie Pippen and Ken Griffey, Jr.
On the second anniversary of the deadly April 27, 2011 tornadoes, Bo will lead a one-day charity bike ride through Cordova, Alabama to continue his mission to raise $1 million for tornado recovery. Along the way, riders will stop for a healthy lunch from Jack’s.
“The riders need a meal that will sustain them and keep them healthy,” said Measel. “Our new grilled chicken salads are the perfect way to stay fit and light.”
To date, Bo Bikes Bama has raised more than $600,000 for the Governor’s Emergency Relief Fund, which was established by Alabama Governor Robert Bentley immediately following the devastating April 2011 storms. The Fund helps Alabamians who have exhausted all other avenues of disaster relief provided by insurance, government funding and relief organizations. In addition to repairing and rebuilding homes, the Fund has helped build several community storm shelters to protect Alabamians from future storms.
